Gopal Vittal, Managing Director of Bharti Airtel, has advocated for another industry-wide tariff increase, citing low returns on capital employed in India’s telecom sector. Despite this, Airtel’s financial health remains robust, supported by strong cash flow and debt reduction.

Financial Performance

In the July-September quarter, Airtel prepaid Rs 8,465 crore of high-cost spectrum dues. The company’s consolidated revenues reached Rs 41,473 crore, marking a 12% increase year-on-year. The EBITDA for the quarter was Rs 22,021 crore, with a margin of 53.1%. India revenues grew by 16.9% year-on-year, driven by an 18.5% increase in mobile revenues.

Network Expansion and Innovations

Airtel expanded its network by adding 5,000 towers and 15,200 mobile broadband stations. The company also launched India’s first AI-powered spam detection solution, which is free and auto-activated for all customers.

Customer Growth and Digital Investments

Airtel added 4.2 million smartphone customers and expanded its Wifi coverage to over 2,000 cities. The company continues to invest in digital businesses and a future-ready network, receiving accolades for its 5G network experience.
