Bharat Lal and Tapan Kumar Deka Get One-Year Extensions in Key Roles

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved a one-year extension for Bharat Lal as Secretary General of the National Human Rights Commission and Tapan Kumar Deka as Director of the Intelligence Bureau. Both extensions are effective beyond June 30, 2024.

Bharat Lal’s Extension

Bharat Lal, a retired officer of the Indian Forest Service from the Gujarat Cadre, was initially appointed to his position last June. His extension is on a contract basis with the rank and pay of Secretary to the Government of India.

Tapan Kumar Deka’s Extension

Tapan Kumar Deka, the Director of the Intelligence Bureau, also received a one-year extension. To facilitate this, the Centre relaxed certain provisions of the All India Services (Death cum Retirement Benefits) Rules, 1958.
