Bengaluru Building Collapse: A Tragic Incident
On October 22, an under-construction building in Bengaluru, Karnataka, tragically collapsed, resulting in the loss of eight lives and injuring six others. Karnataka Assembly Leader of Opposition (LoP) R Ashok expressed his grief and criticized the state government for negligence, questioning the permission granted for the building’s construction.
Government’s Response
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah visited the collapse site in Huramavu Agara and announced a compensation of Rs 5 lakh for the families of the deceased. He assured that the medical expenses for the injured would be covered by the government. The Chief Minister also instructed the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) to halt all illegal constructions in the city.
Legal Actions
An FIR has been filed against three individuals: Munirajareddy, Mohan Reddy, and Elumalai. Bhuvan Reddy, the son of Munirajareddy, and the contractor Muniyappa have been arrested in connection with the incident.
R Ashok accused the Congress-led state government of failing to utilize funds provided by the Central government for infrastructure development. He emphasized the need for a safer Bengaluru and challenged the ruling party to account for their spending on development projects.
