BCCI Announces Big Pay Hike for IPL Players in 2025, Says Jay Shah

In a major announcement ahead of the IPL 2025 mega-auction, Jay Shah, the secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), revealed a substantial increase in match fees for IPL players starting from 2025. Each player will now earn Rs 7.5 lakh per match, with the potential to make up to Rs 1.05 crore if they play all the league matches in a season.

Jay Shah shared this news on his social media, stating that each franchise will allocate Rs 12.60 crore (approximately USD 1 million) as match fees for the entire IPL season starting next year. He described this move as a historic step to celebrate consistency and outstanding performances in the IPL.

The IPL governing council also introduced several updates for the 2025 season, including an increased retention limit, the return of the Right-to-Match (RTM) option, and a higher auction purse. Franchises can now retain up to six players each, with at least one being an uncapped Indian player. The auction purse has been raised to Rs 120 crore (approximately USD 14.33 million), an increase of Rs 20 crore from the previous year.

For the retention of five players, the following amounts will be deducted from the franchise’s purse: Rs 18 crore, Rs 14 crore, Rs 11 crore, Rs 18 crore, and Rs 14 crore, respectively. This totals Rs 75 crore, leaving Rs 45 crore for the auction. If a franchise retains six players, Rs 79 crore will be deducted, leaving Rs 41 crore for the auction.
