Basit Ali Criticizes Pakistan Batters for Fear of Grassy Pitches

Former cricketer Basit Ali has expressed concerns about Pakistan batters, stating that they are afraid to play on grassy pitches that favor fast bowlers. Pakistan recently faced a significant defeat in a Test series against Bangladesh on their home ground.

In the opening Test in Rawalpindi, Pakistan fielded a pace-heavy bowling line-up with four pacers. However, it was Bangladesh’s spin duo, Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Shakib Al Hasan, who caused trouble for Pakistan, taking nine wickets and leading Bangladesh to a 10-wicket victory.

As Pakistan prepares for a three-match Test series against England, Basit Ali suggested that the team might prefer spin-friendly pitches due to their batters’ struggles on quick surfaces. He questioned the availability of quality spinners in the team, mentioning Sajid Khan, Yasir Shah, Noman Ali, and Zahid Mahmood.

In the first Test against Bangladesh, Pakistan’s top-order batters, including Saim Ayub, Abdullah Shafique, Babar Azam, and Shan Masood, struggled against the pacers in both innings. Basit Ali emphasized that Pakistan might avoid making quick surfaces because their batters are afraid of them.

To prepare for the upcoming series against England, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) hosted a Connection Camp in Lahore. Key players such as Babar Azam, Shan Masood, Fakhar Zaman, Mohammad Rizwan, Saim Ayub, Salman Ali Agha, Saud Shakeel, Shadab Khan, and Shaheen Shah Afridi attended the camp. White-ball head coach Gary Kirsten and red-ball head coach Jason Gillespie were also present.

The first Test match against England will begin on October 7 in Multan, followed by the second Test on October 15 in Multan, and the final Test from October 24 to 28 in Rawalpindi.
