Basit Ali Advises Aaqib Javed on Coaching Role Amidst PCB Changes

Basit Ali Advises Aaqib Javed on Coaching Role

Former cricketer Basit Ali has advised Aaqib Javed, Pakistan’s men’s senior selector, against taking the role of men’s white-ball head coach. This advice follows Gary Kirsten’s resignation after six months in the position. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced that Test coach Jason Gillespie will temporarily fill the role during Pakistan’s upcoming tour of Australia, starting November 4, which includes three ODIs and three T20Is.

Basit Ali suggested that Aaqib should focus on his current role to strengthen Pakistan cricket, especially after the team’s recent success against England. He shared this advice on his YouTube channel, saying, “Don’t become the head coach. This is the best piece of advice I can give you. You’re doing well; keep it up.”

Fakhar Zaman’s Controversy

Basit also commented on the controversy involving Fakhar Zaman, who criticized the PCB’s decision to drop Babar Azam during a Test series against England. Fakhar was excluded from the PCB’s list of centrally contracted players due to fitness concerns, as stated by PCB Chief Mohsin Naqvi. Basit urged Aaqib to address Fakhar’s situation, stating, “But one thing I will say is that Fakhar is facing injustice. If you address the issue, it will be resolved. A hero should not be treated like this.”
