The protests will start in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with significant participation from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders, party members, and the public. Barrister Saif suggested that the protests could be so impactful that Maryam Nawaz and her father might consider staying abroad for safety. He criticized the current government as a “fake” regime unable to address public concerns.
Previous March and Arrests
During a previous march, many PTI leaders and workers were arrested, and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House was surrounded. Chief Minister Gandapur was reportedly missing for 24 hours amid allegations of assaulting the state and misusing resources. Conflicting reports about his arrest emerged, but he later appeared in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly to a hero’s welcome.
Condemnation and Legal Actions
In a cabinet meeting, Gandapur condemned the events, claiming K-P police officers were assaulted and rescue workers unlawfully detained. He warned of severe measures if evidence of violence against K-P personnel by Islamabad’s police emerged. Discussions for legal action against federal authorities are ongoing.
Sealing of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) began sealing the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa House in Islamabad for building code violations. Observers noted the timing of this action, following political unrest, seemed suspicious.
