Bangladeshi Diaspora Protests Against Yunus Government in Geneva
On October 7, the Bangladeshi diaspora gathered in front of the Broken Chair at the United Nations in Geneva to protest against the current government led by Muhammad Yunus. The event, organized by the International Forum for Secular Bangladesh, was titled “Aftermath of August 5: Crimes Against Humanity and Blatant Human Rights Abuses.”
Protesters showed support for former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and founding leader Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, chanting slogans and holding banners. Rehman Khalil ur Rehman, President of the International Human Rights Commission Geneva, criticized the Yunus regime for relying on Islamic extremism, warning of potential international media reports on extremism in Bangladesh.
Rehman expressed urgency about the situation, stating that Sheikh Hasina is expected to return to power as the country faces destruction, with reports of killings and torture of writers and human rights defenders. He urged for a resolution against the Yunus government.
Nazrul Islam of the All European Awami League emphasized that the current government has no right to rule, advocating for Sheikh Hasina’s return. He highlighted the bloodshed and looting in Bangladesh, stressing the need for international awareness.
The protest reflected the diaspora’s hopes for a stable and prosperous Bangladesh, with a focus on accountability, democratic governance, and respect for human rights.
