Bangladesh Tribunal Summons Former Ministers and Advisors of Sheikh Hasina
In Dhaka, Bangladesh, the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) has called for 20 individuals, including 10 former ministers and two advisors to ex-Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, to appear in court on November 18. They are accused of crimes against humanity and genocide during the July-August uprising. Notable figures summoned include Anisul Huq, Abdur Razzaque, and Faruk Khan. The tribunal, led by Justice Md Golam Mortuza Majumdar, issued the order after the prosecution filed petitions for their arrest.
Previously, on October 17, the ICT had issued arrest warrants for Sheikh Hasina and 45 other Awami League leaders. Over 60 complaints have been filed against Hasina and her party members. Investigations are underway, and the government is considering amending the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act-1973.
Sheikh Hasina resigned as Prime Minister on August 5, fleeing to India amid protests against a government job quota system. A caretaker government, led by Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus, was established following her resignation.
