Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina arrived in New Delhi on Friday for a State visit at the invitation of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The visit is scheduled from June 21 to 22.

Warm Welcome

Sheikh Hasina was warmly welcomed at the airport by the newly-appointed Minister of State, Kirtivardhan Singh. The visit is expected to give a major boost to India-Bangladesh relations, according to Randhir Jaiswal, the Official Spokesperson for the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

Key Meetings

During her visit, Sheikh Hasina will hold bilateral consultations with Prime Minister Modi and is scheduled to meet President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will also call on the Bangladesh Prime Minister.

Strengthening Ties

India and Bangladesh share a strong relationship marked by a shared history, culture, and geographical proximity. The two countries have expanded their ties under the leadership of PM Modi and Sheikh Hasina. In 2023, both nations engaged in several bilateral activities, including the inauguration of the India-Bangladesh Friendship Pipeline and participation in the G20 meetings.

Collaborative Projects

Both Prime Ministers jointly inaugurated three Indian-assisted development projects in Bangladesh, including the Akhaura-Agartala cross-border rail link, Khulna-Mongla Port rail line, and Unit II of Maitree Super Thermal Power Plant.
