Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina Seeks Safety in India After Government Ouster
After the ouster of Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s government, she sought safety in India. Indian security agencies were prepared for any situation as she headed towards India in an Air Force jet.
Monitoring the Flight
Indian Air Force radars detected a low-flying aircraft around 3 PM coming towards India. The aircraft was allowed to enter Indian airspace as the air defense personnel knew who was inside. To ensure the plane’s security, two Rafale fighter jets from the 101 squadron at Hashimara air base in West Bengal were airborne over Bihar and Jharkhand.
High-Level Monitoring
The flight was closely monitored by ground agencies with constant communication between the aircraft and top Indian security officials. Indian Air Force and Army chiefs, Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari and Gen Upendra Dwivedi, were closely monitoring the situation. A top-level meeting involving intelligence agency chiefs, Gen Dwivedi, and Integrated Defence Staff chief Lt Gen Johnson Philip Mathew was also held.
Arrival and Discussions
Sheikh Hasina’s jet landed at Hindan air base around 5:45 PM, where she was greeted by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. They held an hour-long meeting to discuss the current situation in Bangladesh and her future plans. NSA Doval then briefed a Cabinet Committee of Security meeting led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was kept informed about the developments throughout the day.
