Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned and fled the country amid ongoing violence. An aircraft believed to be carrying her and her entourage is headed towards Delhi, India. The aircraft, with call sign AJAX1431, was monitored by Indian security agencies as it flew close to the Indian border.

Protests erupted in Dhaka following the news of her resignation. Demonstrators set fire to significant locations, including the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Museum and the Dhaka district office of the Awami League. The fires spread to nearby areas, causing further damage.

Bangladesh’s Army Chief General Waqar-uz-Zaman confirmed Sheikh Hasina’s resignation and announced that an interim government would be formed. He urged the public to maintain peace and order, emphasizing the importance of avoiding conflict. The Army Chief also mentioned that he had met with representatives from various political parties to discuss the formation of the interim government.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir called for calm and confirmed that the meeting with the Army Chief was positive.
