Muhammad Yunus Takes Charge

People from Bangladesh visiting India have shared that an interim government has been formed in their country. This development follows the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina amid widespread protests.

Shazia Sultana, from Nilphamari, Bangladesh, expressed hope that everything will be fine now. She mentioned that the interim government has been established, although there are still attacks on minorities.

Another visitor, Mohd Shaheen Sarkar, emphasized that they came to India after witnessing a lot of turmoil in Bangladesh. He added that common people want normalcy and development in their country.

Muhammad Yunus, a Nobel Peace Prize-winning social entrepreneur and founder of Grameen Bank, was sworn in as the head of Bangladesh’s interim government on August 8. The swearing-in ceremony took place in Dhaka and was attended by foreign diplomats, civil society members, top businessmen, and former opposition party members. Notably, no representatives from Sheikh Hasina’s party, the Awami League, were present.

Bangladesh is currently experiencing a fluid political situation, with Sheikh Hasina resigning on August 5 due to mounting protests. These protests, led mainly by students, demanded an end to a quota system for government jobs and evolved into anti-government demonstrations.
