India’s Balraj Panwar finished in fifth place in final D of the men’s singles sculls event at the ongoing Paris Olympics on Friday. He clocked a time of 7:02.37, marking the end of India’s rowing campaign at the Summer Games.

Last year, he finished fourth at the Asian Games 2023, narrowly missing a podium finish.

Balraj, a 25-year-old member of the Indian army, secured a Paris 2024 quota by winning a bronze medal at the Asian and Oceanian Rowing Olympic Qualification Regatta in the Republic of Korea. In the semi-final C/D on Wednesday, he clocked 7:04.97, finishing sixth.

Despite challenging conditions and stiff competition, Balraj’s performance reflects his relentless effort and commitment to his sport. His participation in the Paris Olympics is a significant achievement, showcasing his determination and hard work.

Earlier on Friday, Indian archers Ankita Bhakat and Dhiraj Bommadevara advanced to the quarterfinals in the archery recurve mixed team event after defeating Indonesia’s Diananda Choirunisa and Arif Pangestu.
