Balraj Panwar and Indian Shooters Face Challenges at Paris Olympics
India’s Paris Olympics campaign in rowing started with Balraj Panwar finishing fourth in his first heat race on Saturday. Balraj clocked 7:07:11 minutes, missing direct qualification to the quarterfinals but still eligible for the repechage round on Sunday.
In heat one, New Zealand’s Thomas Mackintosh finished first with 6:55.92 minutes, followed by Greece’s Stefanos Ntouskos at 7:01.79 minutes, and Egypt’s Abdelkhalek El-Banna at 7:05.06 minutes. India has only one rower in the Paris 2024 Olympics.
In shooting, Indian teams faced disappointment in the 10 m air rifle mixed team event. Elavenil Valarivan and Sandeep Singh, and Arjun Babuta and Ramita Jindal, did not advance to the medal matches. Ramita and Arjun finished sixth with 628.7 points, just one point behind Germany. Elavenil and Sandeep finished 12th with 626.3 points.
Germany will compete for the bronze medal against Kazakhstan, while China and South Korea will vie for gold. Despite the setbacks, India still has hope in upcoming 10 m air pistol events featuring stars like Sarabjot Singh and Manu Bhaker.
