Baloch National Movement Protests at UN in Geneva for Balochistan’s Freedom
Geneva, Switzerland – The Baloch National Movement (BNM) organized a protest and photo exhibition outside the United Nations office in Geneva. The event took place during the 57th UN Human Rights Session and gathered many activists in front of the Broken Chair monument.
Highlighting Human Rights Violations
The protest aimed to bring attention to the human rights violations in Balochistan and called for the region’s freedom. Participants raised slogans against the repression in Balochistan and criticized China’s involvement in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.
Voices of Support
Rahima Mahmut, Executive Director of Stop Uyghur Genocide, expressed solidarity with the Baloch people, comparing their plight to that of the Uyghurs. She condemned the oppression by Pakistan and China.
Researcher and political activist Jaffer Mirza stressed the need for Pakistan to address the grievances of the Baloch people. He emphasized that Pakistan must recognize and respect their human rights and dignity.
British human rights activist Peter Tatchell also voiced his support, condemning Pakistan’s occupation of Balochistan since 1948. He called for global sanctions against Pakistan’s political and military leaders.

The photo exhibition offered a stark portrayal of the hardships faced by the Baloch population, highlighting the impact of military operations, disappearances, and resource exploitation.
Joint Efforts
Uyghur activists joined the Baloch in denouncing China’s role in the CPEC project, which connects Balochistan’s Gwadar port to Xinjiang. Both groups raised concerns over resource exploitation and the violation of local rights.
The BNM vowed to continue its campaign for the freedom of Balochistan and against the suppression of its people.
