The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) is mourning the loss of its former Secretary General, Baljit Singh Sethi, who passed away at the age of 89 on September 18 at 8:40 am. Sethi served as the Secretary General of NRAI for 24 years, from 1985 to 2009, making him the longest-serving individual in that position. He is survived by his wife, daughter, and son.

Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, Senior Vice President of NRAI, expressed his sorrow, stating, “It is an irreparable loss to our Shooting family. His contribution to the development and growth of the sport in the country is immeasurable.”

Raninder Singh, former President of NRAI, also shared his thoughts, saying, “It was under Shri Baljit Sethi’s reign that Shooting began to get recognized as a popular sport in the country. His vision, dedication, and passion saw India win its first ever Olympic medal in Shooting and also the first individual Olympic gold for the country.”

The current Secretary General, Kr Sultan Singh, added, “The entire Shooting fraternity is indebted to Sethi for his contribution to the sport and he will be sorely missed by all of us.”

Baljit Singh Sethi’s legacy in the sport of shooting in India is profound, and his contributions will be remembered for years to come.
