The All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC) held its 13th Triennial General Council Meeting in Guwahati. The event, which took place from Sunday to Tuesday, was attended by nearly 1,100 delegates from various banks across India.

Key Highlights

During the meeting, elections were held for the Executive Committee. Balachandra PM was re-elected as President, and Rupam Roy was re-elected as General Secretary, among other office bearers.

Event Inauguration

The meeting was inaugurated on the evening of July 7 at Srimanta Shankardeva International Auditorium in Guwahati. MV Rao, Chairman of the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA), was the Chief Guest. He discussed the latest developments, achievements, and challenges in the banking sector.

Report Release

A report titled ‘Where is My Interest Rate?’ was released during the event. Published jointly by AIBOC and the Centre for Financial Accountability (CFA), the report provides a critical overview of the banking landscape in India.

Rupam Roy, General Secretary of AIBOC, highlighted several key themes discussed during the meeting:

  • The importance and significance of the public sector in India’s progress.
  • The impact of high interest rates on common citizens.
  • The issue of banks subsidizing corporate loans through low-priced deposits and high-priced loans for the public.
  • The challenges faced by Small Credits.
  • The understaffing of Public Sector Banks and its consequences.
