In Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, a clash during a Durga idol immersion procession led to significant developments. The police reported that Sarfaraz and Mohammad Talib, accused in the incident, were shot in the leg while attempting to flee to Nepal. Five individuals have been arrested in connection with the case, according to Amitabh Yash, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), Special Task Force, Uttar Pradesh.

SP Bahraich, Vrinda Shukla, confirmed the arrests and injuries, stating, “5 people have been arrested. Two of them have been injured in police firing.” The injured individuals, Sarfaraz and Mohammad Talib, are receiving medical treatment.

The clash resulted in the death of Ramgopal Mishra, who succumbed to excessive bleeding from pellet injuries, as confirmed by Bahraich Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Sanjay Kumar Sharma. The incident occurred during a procession in the Mahasi area, leading to tensions between two communities.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Rural, Pavitra Mohan Tripathi, urged the public not to spread misinformation, emphasizing that the situation is now peaceful. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath assured the victim’s family of justice and announced compensation, including Rs 10 lakh, a house under the PM Awas Yojana, and an Antyodaya card.

In response to the incident, the state government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, took action against police officials, removing the SHO of Hardi police station and the in-charge of the Mahsi area. CO Ravi Khokhar of Rampur was appointed to oversee the Mahsi area.
