Bahraich Forest Team Hunts ‘Killer’ Wolves to Protect Villagers
In Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, forest officials are intensifying their search for two ‘killer’ wolves to protect villagers from attacks. The forest department, led by General Manager Sanjay Pathak, is using drones and snap cameras to locate the wolves.
Efforts to Capture Wolves
According to forest sources, one of the wolves is a lone wolf attacking people. Pathak mentioned that the team is working rigorously with 24-hour monitoring of the affected areas. They are now using sheep instead of goats to lure the wolves, hoping to change their behavior.
Challenges Faced
Pathak also highlighted the issue of misinformation and false sightings, which hinder the search operation. The team is considering asking district administration and police to take action against rumour peddlers.
Shelter Homes for Villagers
In response to the wolf attacks, the Bahraich district administration has built shelter homes for villagers. The Panchayat Bhawan in Chandpaiya village has been converted into a shelter home, providing safe accommodation for those in fear and with dilapidated houses. The shelter home supervisor mentioned that arrangements for drinking water and toilets are adequate.
Current Status
So far, four wolves have been captured. Drone visuals taken on Saturday morning at Harbaksh Purwa village showed a vast stretch of agricultural land under surveillance. Forest officials conducted a search operation 2-3 kilometers away from Harbaksh Purwa, where the wolf was located on Friday night with the help of thermal drones.
