Badrinath National Highway Blocked by Debris in Chamoli, Uttarakhand
The Badrinath National Highway in Chamoli, Uttarakhand, has been blocked by debris near Nandprayag and Chatwapipal, according to Chamoli Police. The police shared images on social media showing the blocked highway.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted isolated heavy rainfall in Uttarakhand from September 25-27. In a press release, the IMD stated, ‘Isolated heavy rainfall very likely over Uttarakhand during 25th -27th; West Uttar Pradesh on 27th; East Uttar Pradesh during 26th -28th September.’
Earlier, on September 14, heavy rainfall caused multiple landslides along the Badrinath National Highway, blocking the road at Lambagad, Nandprayag, Sonala, and Barrage Kunj. The alternate route between Sakot and Nandprayag was also blocked due to the landslides.
Chamoli Police have been stopping travelers at safe locations for their safety. They stated, ‘Due to the heavy rainfall in the district, landslides are occurring at many places on the Badrinath National Highway, due to which the road is getting blocked repeatedly.’
Previously, the highway was blocked at Kameda (Gauchar), Nandprayag (Chamoli), and Chhinka (Chamoli), disrupting traffic. However, the blocked roads at Chhinka and Kameda have since been reopened for traffic.
