In a historic achievement, Indian table tennis players Ayhika and Suthirtha Mukherjee became the first Indian duo to win a medal in the women’s doubles category at the Asian Table Tennis Championships. The event took place in Astana, Kazakhstan. In the semifinals, they triumphed over South Korea’s Kim Nayeong and Lee Eunhye with a 3-1 victory. Despite losing the first game 10-12, they bounced back to win the next three games 11-7, 11-9, and 11-8, securing their place in history.

Additionally, the Indian men’s table tennis team also earned a bronze medal at the championships. Although they lost to Chinese Taipei 0-3 in the semifinals, they had already secured the bronze by defeating Kazakhstan’s team 3-1 in the quarterfinals. This competition awards bronze medals to both losing semifinal teams.

The Indian women’s team also made headlines by winning a bronze medal, marking the first time India has achieved this in the women’s team category since the championship’s inception in 1972. They confirmed their bronze with a thrilling 3-2 victory over South Korea in the quarterfinals, despite a 1-3 loss to Japan in the semifinals.
