Providence [Guyana], June 28: India spinner Axar Patel was named ‘Player of the Match’ after taking three wickets in a 68-run victory over England in the second semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2024. Patel credited his slower bowling on the slow pitch in Guyana for his success.

Speaking after the match, Patel said, “The wicket was slow, so I tried to bowl slower in this match, it worked for me. Wouldn’t have worked had I bowled quicker, would have been easier for their batters.” He also praised the partnership of Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav, calling it magnificent.

Jos Buttler-led England won the toss and decided to bowl against Rohit Sharma’s India. Rohit Sharma scored 57 runs from 39 balls, and Suryakumar Yadav added 47 runs from 36 balls, helping India reach 171/7. Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja also contributed with 23 and 17* runs respectively.

Chris Jordan led the England bowling attack, taking three wickets for 37 runs in his three-over spell. However, England struggled during their run chase, managing only 103 runs in 16.4 overs. Harry Brook and Jos Buttler were the only standout batters for England.

Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav led the Indian bowling attack, each taking three wickets. Jasprit Bumrah also contributed with two wickets, helping India secure a 68-run win. The final of the T20 World Cup will see India face South Africa in Barbados on Saturday.
