Avinash Sable Finishes 11th in Men’s 3000m Steeplechase at Paris 2024 Olympics
Paris, France, August 8: India’s Avinash Sable finished in 11th place in the men’s 3000m steeplechase final at the Paris 2024 Olympics on Wednesday. Sable clocked 8:14.18 in the final at the Stade de France.
After the first 1000m, Sable was in fourth place but gradually fell behind, ending up outside the top 10. Soufiane El Bakkali of Morocco won the gold medal with a season-best time of 8:06.05. Kenneth Brooks from the USA took silver with a personal best of 8:06.41, and Kenya’s Abraham Kibiwot won the bronze.
In the previous round, Sable finished fifth in Heat 2, clocking 8:15.43 to qualify for the final. He started strong but stumbled over a hurdle, finishing behind Morocco’s Mohamed Tindouft, Ethiopia’s Samuel Firewu, Kenya’s Abraham Kibiwot, and Japan’s Ryuji Miura.
In Heat 1, Morocco’s Soufiyane El Bakkali finished first with a time of 8:17.90, followed by Uganda’s Leonard Chemutai, Ethiopia’s Getnet Wale, Spain’s Daniel Arce, and Tunisia’s Ahmed Jaziri. Kenya’s Amos Serem, the national trials winner, ended in sixth place after a mishap at the water jump, failing to qualify for the final.
