Vienna, Austria – Austrian artists had the honor of singing ‘Vande Mataram’ in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi when he arrived at the Ritz-Carlton hotel in Vienna. The performance was described as a ‘phenomenal experience’ by Ibrahim, an Austrian artist from the choir and orchestra.

Preparation and Performance

Ibrahim shared that the orchestra had been preparing for the performance for a few days, calling it a ‘huge opportunity’ for Austria and the orchestra. He expressed his excitement and honor in performing for PM Modi, noting the warm interaction he had with the Prime Minister.

Vijay Upadhyay’s Role

Vijay Upadhyay, originally from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, headed the choir and orchestra. He mentioned that a total of 50 members performed in front of PM Modi. Upadhyay, who directs the music department at Vienna University, explained the meticulous preparation involved, including writing down the music and rehearsing for two weeks.

Antonia’s Experience

Antonia, another Austrian artist from the choir, called the experience ‘enormous’ and noted the excitement of performing in front of such an honored person. She described PM Modi as friendly and approachable, sharing that he interacted with the orchestra members, took photos, and signed their notes.

PM Modi’s Visit to Austria

PM Modi arrived in Austria after a two-day visit to Russia. He was welcomed by Austrian Foreign Minister Alexander Schallenberg and Indian Ambassador to Austria, Shambhu Kumaran. PM Modi expressed his excitement about the visit on social media, highlighting the shared values and commitment between India and Austria.

During his visit, PM Modi joined a dinner hosted by Austrian Chancellor Karl Nehammer, who extended a warm welcome. This visit marks the first time an Indian Prime Minister has visited Austria in 41 years, with Indira Gandhi being the last in 1983.
