Aston Villa Signs Amadou Onana from Everton
Premier League club Aston Villa has announced the signing of 22-year-old midfielder Amadou Onana from Everton. The club’s official statement read, “Aston Villa is delighted to announce the signing of Amadou Onana from Everton. Welcome, Amadou.”
Onana is known for his ability to disrupt the opposition’s play and regain possession for his team. He previously played for Hamburger SV and LOSC Lille before joining Everton in the summer of 2022. At Everton, he made over 70 appearances and scored three goals last season. Internationally, Onana has earned 17 caps for Belgium and recently played in Euro 2024.
After joining Aston Villa, Onana said, “It feels amazing. I’m glad to be here, finally, and I can’t wait to get started. There’s a healthy atmosphere here to grow as a player and as a man.” He added, “The team played very attractive football last season with loads of goals and will now be playing in the Champions League. We also have a manager that’s one of the best in the business and I think he can take my game to the next level.”
Onana also mentioned that fellow Belgian player Youri Tielemans, who was part of the Belgium squad in Euro 2024, played a significant role in his decision to join Aston Villa. “Youri played a big part in me being here because he told me lots of good stuff about the club. He’s someone I’m used to playing with in the national team, so I’m looking forward to training with him on a daily basis. He’s someone who’s got the experience to help and guide me throughout the whole process,” Onana said.
