Assam’s New Policy to Boost IT Parks and Help Small Traders: CM Himanta Biswa Sarma
The Assam cabinet has approved the Land and Space Lease Management Policy, 2024, to promote the state as a preferred destination for IT parks and Electronics Manufacturing Clusters (EMCs). Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that this policy will provide a framework for investors to access land and space in IT parks, managed by Assam Electronics Development Corporation Limited (AMTRON). This initiative is expected to generate 8,000 direct and over 100,000 indirect jobs.
Additionally, the state cabinet has accepted recommendations from Cabinet Sub-Committees to assist small traders facing challenges due to GST-related notices. The committees visited various locations and met with traders to understand their issues. Based on their findings, the cabinet has decided to rectify certain cases from 2017-18 and 2018-19 within three months. For cases from 2019-20 to 2021-22, new guidelines will be followed to ensure fair treatment and compliance with GST laws.
