Assam’s Mission Basundhara 3.0: A New Era in Land Reforms

On October 20, Assam’s Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced the launch of Mission Basundhara 3.0 in Guwahati. This initiative aims to provide land rights to the indigenous people of Assam and issue land passbooks to all landowners within two years. The mission seeks to address services not covered in previous phases, requiring legislative and technological changes. CM Sarma emphasized the significance of this reform, stating it as a unique opportunity for the state.

Previous Phases and Future Plans

Mission Basundhara 1.0 began on October 2, 2021, followed by 2.0 in November 2022. The current phase aims to resolve legacy land issues and convert non-cadastral villages to cadastral ones, leveraging the Prime Minister’s SVAMITVA scheme.
