Assam’s Big Changes: Cheaper CNG, Better Cancer Care, and More

The Assam Cabinet has made several important decisions to improve various sectors in the state. One major change is the reduction of Value Added Tax (VAT) on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) from 14.5% to 5% until March 31, 2027. This move aims to reduce air pollution and make CNG more affordable for consumers.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Cabinet has approved Rs 200 crore for the Assam Cancer Care Foundation. This funding will help build 17 cancer care hospitals, benefiting around 30,000 cancer patients each year.

To ensure good governance in the Barak Valley, Cabinet Ministers will visit the region every month for three days. This initiative is part of the government’s plan to fast-track development in the area.

The Cabinet also approved Rs 375 crore for the Mukhya Mantri Ayushman Asom Yojana (MMAAY) for 2024-25. This program offers cashless medical benefits up to Rs 25 lakh per family per year at government and empanelled private hospitals.

Additionally, Rs 401.50 crore was released for developmental works in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR). This amount is the first installment for the financial year 2024-25 under the SOPD-G fund.
