Assam Rifles’ Successful Operations Against Smuggling in Mizoram
In a significant move against smuggling, Assam Rifles conducted two successful operations in Champhai district, Mizoram. The first operation led to the arrest of a 25-year-old named Lalrempuia and the seizure of ‘Heroin No 4’ in the Zote area. The second operation resulted in the recovery of illegal areca nuts from Keifangtlang. These operations were carried out by joint teams of Assam Rifles with Excise and Narcotics, and Customs Preventive Force, Champhai, based on specific intelligence.
The seized items, valued at Rs 1.48 crore, have been handed over to the respective authorities for further legal action. Smuggling of drugs and contraband remains a significant issue in Mizoram and India, prompting Assam Rifles to intensify efforts to capture the masterminds behind these illegal activities.
In another operation, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with the Excise and Narcotics Department, seized heroin worth approximately Rs 15.94 lakh in Lunglei, Mizoram. A woman suspected of drug peddling was apprehended after being under surveillance. The operation took place on October 31, 2024, and the seized heroin, weighing around 22.78 grams, is now under the custody of the Excise and Narcotics Department for further investigation.
