In a significant operation to combat cross-border smuggling, Assam Rifles troops captured a large consignment of illegal areca nuts in Manipur. The operation took place on November 1 at Khuga village in the Churachandpur district.

Details of the Seizure

Based on specific intelligence, Assam Rifles set up a vehicle check post at Khuga. During the operation, they intercepted a convoy consisting of three goods carrier trucks and one Tata DI vehicle. Upon inspection, they discovered 350 sacks of illegal areca nuts hidden beneath covers and cartons.

Aftermath of the Operation

The seized goods, valued at Rs 2.4 crore, were handed over to the Divisional Forest Officer of Churachandpur. This was done after a joint interrogation by Assam Rifles and Manipur Police.
