Assam Rifles Seize Heroin and Areca Nuts in Mizoram Operations
In a series of operations from November 12 to 13, Assam Rifles, in collaboration with local law enforcement, seized a large amount of Heroin No. 4 and illegal Areca Nuts valued at Rs 1.5 crore in Aizawl and Champhai district, Mizoram. Five individuals were apprehended during these operations.
Details of the Operations
On November 12, Assam Rifles intercepted 113 grams of Heroin No. 4 worth Rs 84.75 lakh at Melbuk Road Junction, arresting three women from Khawzawl. In a second operation, 34.5 grams of Heroin No. 4 valued at Rs 24.15 lakh was seized in Aizawl, leading to the arrest of H Vanlalmuanpuia, a 27-year-old resident of Chanmari, Aizawl.
On November 13, a joint team seized 4900 kgs of illegal Areca Nuts worth Rs 39.30 lakh in New Champhai. Another operation in Aizawl’s Edenthar Veng area resulted in the recovery of 11 grams of Heroin No. 4 worth Rs 7.15 lakh and the arrest of Joseph Laltlanjima, a 22-year-old resident of Edenther, Aizawl.

The seized items and apprehended individuals were handed over to various law enforcement agencies for further legal action. These operations highlight the ongoing efforts to combat drug smuggling along the Indo-Myanmar border, a significant concern for Mizoram and India.
