Assam Rifles have started Operation Jal Raahat in Imphal to stop flooding. They set up a Flood Control Room with a helpline number 7075578116 from 6 PM on July 2, 2024. Severe waterlogging and high flood levels were reported in Imphal West, Imphal East, and Thoubal Districts.

On Tuesday, two Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) columns were sent to New Checkon and Mahabali Temple in Imphal. Assam Rifles’ quick actions saved 550 people, including men, women, and children, and stopped the Imphal River from overflowing into nearby areas. One column moved to Irilbung to strengthen the banks of the Iril River. More HADR columns were sent to Singjamei, Nambol, and Keithelmanbi. A Mobile Medical unit was set up to give immediate medical help to rescued people.

Earlier on Monday, Assam Rifles started Operation Saviour in Arunachal Pradesh to rescue people from flood-affected villages. They saved nearly 500 people from villages like Vijoypur, Dharampur, Mudoi, Shrishtipur, Hanthi Mara Beel, and Chowkham. With heavy rain in Namsai and Changlang districts, Assam Rifles worked with the civil administration to set up temporary camps and shelters, providing emergency food and medicine.
