Assam Rifles Chief Lt General PC Nair Talks About Manipur Violence and Security in North-East

Lt General PC Nair, the Director General of Assam Rifles, has addressed the ongoing violence in Manipur. He stated that many of the videos circulating online are doctored and do not originate from the North-East. According to Nair, these videos are being used by people with hidden agendas to create trouble in the region.

Nair explained that some of the videos are from Myanmar and the Rohingya region, and parts of actual incidents are being clipped to spread a certain narrative. He emphasized the importance of viewing entire videos to understand the complete facts.

The Director General also discussed the broader security situation in the North-East, noting that it is influenced by events in neighboring countries like Bhutan, Myanmar, China, Bangladesh, and Nepal. He highlighted that issues in these countries, especially Myanmar, have a significant impact on the North-East due to shared borders and ethnicity.

Nair dismissed rumors that Assam Rifles have been partial towards a particular community in Manipur, calling such claims preposterous. He pointed out that most of the arms confiscated and bunkers destroyed were in Kuki-dominated areas, and the only Assam Rifles soldier killed in action was in a Kuki area.

He also mentioned that Assam Rifles have seized contraband worth over Rs 3600 crore in the last three years, with a significant portion being drugs. Nair noted that some insurgent groups are involved in the illegal narcotics trade and that weapon smuggling remains an issue.

Despite the challenges, Nair assured that the overall security situation in the North-East is stable, with insurgency at a low scale and no alarming numbers of militants.
