Assam Police Seize Over 635 Grams of Heroin in Major Drug Busts

Karimganj (Assam) [India], August 14: Assam Police launched a crackdown on drug trafficking, conducting two anti-narcotics operations and seizing over 635 grams of heroin, officials said on Wednesday.

First Operation in Karimganj

In the first operation, Karimganj Police intercepted a vehicle at Gilaiti Hills that was travelling from a neighbouring state. Upon inspection, officers discovered 305 grams of heroin concealed within the vehicle. Two individuals were apprehended in connection with this incident and are currently under investigation, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said in a post on X.

Second Operation in Cachar

In another operation, Cachar Police conducted a thorough search of a suspect at Sonai, leading to the recovery of 330.07 grams of heroin, with an estimated market value of Rs 2 crore. The suspect has been apprehended and is being held for further questioning.

Earlier Seizure in June

Earlier, in June, the Assam Police seized 1.7 kilograms of heroin worth approximately Rs 8.5 crore and arrested one person in the Dholaikhal area near the Assam-Mizoram border. Numal Mahatta, Superintendent of Police of Cachar district, informed that based on secret information, Cachar police conducted a special operation along the Assam-Mizoram border at Dholaikhal area near Dholaikhal Border Outpost under the jurisdiction of Dholai Police Station. During the operation, the police team apprehended a person named Abdul Ahat Laskar (33 years old). During a proper search, the police team recovered 139 numbers of soap cases containing heroin from his possession. Later on, the recovered articles were seized weighing about 1.700 kilograms. The price of the contraband items in the black market is about Rs 8.5 crore.
