In a significant operation, the Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police seized 637 grams of heroin valued at Rs six crore in the Amingaon area of Kamrup district, Assam. The operation took place late on Saturday night, leading to the arrest of two individuals.

Details of the Operation

Partha Sarathi Mahanta, Inspector General of Police (STF) of Assam, explained that the STF had received intelligence about narcotics being transported from Kangpokpi in Manipur to Lower Assam districts. The consignment was intended for Murtaza Ahmed, also known as Bhulu, a 31-year-old from Latasil, Guwahati. Bhulu was supposed to distribute the drugs to areas like Baihata and Rangia.

Seizure and Arrests

Based on the intelligence, Bhulu was intercepted in a Tata Nexon at Amingaon, where 49 packets of heroin were discovered and seized. The total weight of the heroin, excluding packaging, was 637 grams. The market value of the seized drugs is estimated at Rs six crore.

Additionally, the 27-year-old truck driver, Prasant Toppo from Karbi Anglong district, who transported the narcotics from Manipur, was arrested in a parking lot in Changsari. Both the Tata Nexon and the truck, along with the narcotics, have been confiscated.
