Assam Police Seize Heroin and Arrest Suspects in Kamrup and Karimganj

The Special Task Force (STF) of Assam Police has successfully seized 588 grams of heroin and arrested two individuals in Kamrup district. According to Pranab Jyoti Goswami, the Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) of Assam Police, the STF received information about narcotics being transported from Camphai in Mizoram to Barpeta in a truck. The STF team tracked the truck from Shillong Bypass and intercepted it at Amingaon in Kamrup district. Upon searching the truck, they found 42 soap boxes containing heroin hidden in the tarpaulin of the truck’s hood. The arrested individuals were identified as Mofiz Uddin and Lal Chan Badsha, both from Howly in Barpeta district.

Earlier in the week, three individuals were arrested in Karimganj district after the recovery of 1.20 lakh Yaba tablets and 537 grams of heroin, with a total market value of Rs 42 crore. Partha Protim Das, the Superintendent of Police of Karimganj district, stated that the accused were attempting to transport the narcotics through Guwahati to the rest of the country. The vehicle carrying the drugs was intercepted at Patel Nagar area under Karimganj police station. The arrested individuals were identified as Hanif Uddin from Ratabari police station area and Jabrul Hussain from Patharkandi police station area of Karimganj district. Further investigations are ongoing.
