Assam Police Arrest Five for Gang Rape of Minor Girl in Udalguri
In Udalguri district of Assam, police have arrested five men in connection with the gang rape of a minor girl. The arrested individuals are Mustaq Ahmed, Mohidul Islam, Hafijul Ali, Saddam Ali, and Ehsan Ahmed.
Details of the Incident
Superintendent of Police Pushkin Jain stated that the incident occurred on the evening of June 22 when the minor girl and her friends were returning from Mazbat area. The five men allegedly attacked and raped the girl. Following the incident, police arrested the suspects from Mazbat, Dhekiajuli, and Dalgaon areas. The victim has undergone a medical examination and is in stable condition.
Community Reaction
In response to the crime, local residents and organizations staged protests, and some even torched the houses of two accused. Superintendent Jain urged the public to maintain law and order and assured a thorough investigation with public cooperation.
Government Response
Assam Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah visited Udalguri to assess the situation on the instructions of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He met with local representatives and the victim’s family, offering condolences and promising government support for the victim’s recovery and justice, including the establishment of Fast Track Courts.
