Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika Visits Nagaon Rape Survivor, Promises Justice
Guwahati (Assam) [India], August 24: Assam Minister Pijush Hazarika visited a hospital on August 23 to check on the health of a young rape survivor from Nagaon. He assured the family that strict action would be taken against those responsible. The doctors informed him that the victim is recovering.
On August 22, Minister Hazarika also visited the victim’s home to understand the situation better. He shared updates on social media, promising that the government would not spare the criminals involved in this heinous act.
A minor girl was allegedly gang-raped on her way home from tuition on August 22 in the Dhing area of Assam. Locals found her in a semi-conscious state and took her to a hospital. The police later recovered the body of the prime accused from a pond after he tried to escape from custody.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma emphasized the need for prompt action in cases of violence against women. Assam Congress MLA Abdur Rashid Mandal demanded severe punishment for the culprits. Assam Director General of Police GP Singh confirmed that a case has been registered under the POCSO Act, as the victim is 14 years old.
This incident has sparked nationwide outrage, similar to the recent case of a female trainee doctor who was murdered and allegedly sexually assaulted in Kolkata.
