Assam Floods Cause Vegetable Prices to Soar, Affecting Many

The flood situation in Assam is improving, but over 12.33 lakh people in 24 districts are still affected. The floods have damaged crops, causing a spike in vegetable prices.

Impact on Vegetable Prices

According to traders, the prices of vegetables have soared due to the flood situation. Ashok, a vegetable seller, mentioned that the flood damaged vegetables and crops in many areas, and now vegetables are coming from outside the state. Nitya Biswas, another seller, also noted the price increase due to floods and rainfall.

Khalilur Rahman, a customer, expressed that common people are facing many problems due to the hike in vegetable prices.

Current Flood Situation

Despite improvements, over 12.33 lakh people in 24 districts are still affected by the deluge. The flood waters have submerged more than 32,924 hectares of crop area across the state. The death toll has reached 90, with recent deaths reported in Goalpara, Nagaon, and Jorhat districts.

Affected Areas

The affected districts include Cachar, Dhubri, Nagaon, Kamrup, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Nalbari, Barpeta, Dhemaji, Sivasagar, Goalpara, Jorhat, Morigaon, Lakhimpur, Karimganj, Darrang, Majuli, Biswanath, Hailakandi, Bongaigaon, South Salmara, Chirang, Tinsukia, and Kamrup (M).

River Levels

While water levels of many rivers are receding, the Brahmaputra River is still above the danger level at Neamatighat, Tezpur, and Dhubri. Other rivers like Burhidihing, Disang, and Kushiyara are also above danger levels.
