Assam Floods: 93 Lives Lost, Thousands Affected in 18 Districts
The floods in Assam have claimed 93 lives so far, with two recent deaths in Karimganj district, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). Nearly 5.98 lakh people across 18 districts, including Cachar, Nalbari, Kamrup, and Golaghat, are affected by the deluge.
Over 58,000 people are taking shelter in 172 relief camps across 13 districts. The Brahmaputra River and other rivers are flowing above danger levels, submerging 1,342 villages and 25,367.61 hectares of crop area.
Kaziranga National Park has also been impacted, with 196 animals, including 10 rhinos, dying due to the floods. The park authorities have rescued 143 animals, including 2 rhino calves and 2 elephant calves. The flood situation is gradually improving as waters recede in various parts of the state.
