Assam Floods: 90 People and 180 Animals Lost, Over 12 Lakh Affected

The Assam floods have claimed 90 lives, with seven more deaths reported recently, according to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA). Over 12.33 lakh people in 24 districts are affected, and 2.95 lakh people are taking shelter in 316 relief camps.

The affected districts include Cachar, Dhubri, Nagaon, Kamrup, Dibrugarh, Golaghat, Nalbari, Barpeta, Dhemaji, Sivasagar, Goalpara, Jorhat, Morigaon, Lakhimpur, Karimganj, Darrang, Majuli, Biswanath, Hailakandi, Bongaigaon, South Salmara, Chirang, Tinsukia, and Kamrup (M). The Brahmaputra River and other rivers are still above danger levels in several areas.

In Kaziranga National Park, 180 wild animals, including 10 rhinos, have died due to the floods. Authorities have rescued 135 animals, including two rhino calves and two elephant calves. Despite some improvement, many areas remain underwater.
