Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sharma Announces Rs 1 Crore Insurance for State Employees
Guwahati (Assam) [India], September 5: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma has introduced a new policy to provide insurance coverage up to Rs 1 crore for state government employees. This announcement was made by the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) on Wednesday.
Insurance Coverage Details
The new policy includes:
- Rs 10 lakhs for life insurance
- Rs 1 crore for accidental death
- Rs 1 crore for total disability
- Rs 80 lakhs for partial disability
The CMO stated that this policy aims to ensure financial stability for state government employees and their families in case of death or disability. The insurance will be provided through a zero-premium based agreement with the State Bank of India or any other scheduled commercial bank.

In addition to the insurance policy, the Assam Cabinet made several other key decisions:
- 20% bonus for Assam Tea Corporation Ltd employees and workers
- Rs 200 crore power subsidy to benefit economically weaker consumers
- Establishment of Assam’s third Taj Hotel in Jagiroad
- Amendments to the State’s Startup & Industrial Policy
