Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Welcomes New Forest Protection Corps Constables
On August 7, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma attended the convocation of Assam Forest Protection Corps constables at Lachit Borphukan Police Academy in Dergaon. A total of 940 constables, including 90 girls and 850 boys, were recruited.
During his speech, Sarma expressed happiness over the rigorous training the new soldiers received. He emphasized the importance of forest protection and the role of the constables as border guards. Sarma thanked Assam Police for their efforts against corruption and highlighted the transparent recruitment process.
Sarma mentioned that from 2001 to 2014, recruitments were limited to a particular community, but now they have moved forward in securing Assam’s future. He announced that the Assam Police recruitment process would start in October and that 600 more soldiers would join the Forest Protection Corps next year.
He also discussed the need for a five-star hotel near Kaziranga National Park to boost tourism and addressed the flood problem in Guwahati, attributing it to construction activities by the University of Science and Technology and DPS.
Regarding the coup in Bangladesh, Sarma expressed concerns about the safety of northeastern states and the potential impact on Assam. He hoped that Prime Minister Modi would maintain the current safety situation by engaging with the new government in Bangladesh.
Sarma also mentioned the merit-based appointment of Assam LP UP teachers and assured support for the Karbi Autonomous Governing Council regarding VGR lands in Karbi Anglong.
During the event, the constables pledged to perform their duties with loyalty and honesty. Forest Minister Chandra Mohan Patwari, Agriculture Minister Atul Bora, Chief Forest Conservator MK Yadav, and Director General of Assam Police GP Singh were also present.
