Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Visits Barpeta Satra and Addresses State Issues

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma visited the Barpeta Satra monastery in Barpeta district. He announced that the roofing sheets of the monastery will be replaced for the first time in 62 years. Sarma expressed his gratitude for being part of this important task.

The Barpeta Satra is a significant monastery established by Mahapurush Madhabdev, a key disciple of Vaishnavite saint Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva.

During his visit, CM Sarma also addressed recent disturbances in the state. He accused a certain section of people of engaging in criminal activities following the Lok Sabha election results. He directed the state police to take strict action against those responsible.

CM Sarma highlighted recent incidents of rape and mob violence in various regions, including Mazbat, Dhekiajuli, Dudhnoi, Kokrajhar, and Barpeta villages. He expressed concern over the increase in such incidents and emphasized the need for strong police action.

In the 2024 general election, the BJP won nine seats, Congress won three, and BJP’s allies Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and United Peoples’ Party, Liberal (UPPL) each won one seat out of the total 14 Lok Sabha seats in Assam.
