Golaghat (Assam) [India], August 7: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has assured that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will ensure the North-East does not become a safe haven for terrorists. Speaking about the political unrest in Bangladesh, Sarma highlighted two main concerns: the potential influx of people from Bangladesh into India and the risk of North-East extremists returning.

He stated, “PM Modi will make sure that the North East does not become a safe haven for terrorists.” Sarma emphasized the importance of securing borders and noted that extremists were removed from Bangladesh during Sheikh Hasina’s rule. He added, “It will remain our concern that Bangladesh does not become a valley of North East extremists… We hope that the Indian government will be in talks with the new government and that the concerns of the North East will be considered.”

Bangladesh is currently experiencing political instability, with Sheikh Hasina resigning amid protests. President Mohammed Shahabuddin dissolved the parliament to form an interim administration, appointing Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus as the head of the interim government.
