Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Talks About Changing Demography and Jharkhand Elections
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has raised concerns about the changing demography in Assam, stating that the Muslim population has increased from 12% in 1951 to 40% today. He emphasized that this issue is a matter of ‘life and death’ for him and not a political one.
Sarma, who is also the Bharatiya Janata Party’s co-in-charge for the Jharkhand assembly, addressed a press conference in Ranchi. He highlighted the problem of illegal immigrants marrying tribal girls without following legal procedures and called for specific laws to protect the rights of tribal women in Jharkhand.
Regarding the upcoming Jharkhand assembly elections, Sarma expressed confidence that the BJP would win and replace the current JMM government. He pointed to the BJP’s strong performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections as an indicator of their potential success.
Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, who recently took oath again after getting bail in a graft case, will be up against the BJP in the elections later this year. The NDA won 9 out of 14 seats in Jharkhand in the recent Lok Sabha elections, while the INDIA bloc won 5 seats.
