Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Meets Union Ministers in New Delhi

On July 24, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma met with Union Minister of Power Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi. They discussed ways to improve Assam’s energy security and ensure continuous power availability for the state.

CM Sarma shared on social media, “I had the opportunity to have a great meeting with Hon’ble Union Minister Shri @mlkhattar ji today. We had a detailed deliberation to augment Assam’s energy security, including ensuring all-round power availability for the State. To this effect, we have secured unstinted support from the Government of India.”

They also talked about introducing reforms in the power sector to benefit consumers, distributors, and producers. Additionally, they discussed developing and maintaining urban wetlands in an environmentally friendly manner and establishing a satellite township near Guwahati to meet housing needs.

During his visit, CM Sarma also met Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav. They discussed measures to strengthen Assam’s environment and leverage new central schemes for climate change mitigation. Sarma noted, “I had the opportunity to brief him on various measures being taken in Assam to fortify our environment and forest. We also discussed how Assam can leverage newly announced central schemes to mitigate the impact of climate change.”
