Guwahati, Assam – On the 74th death anniversary of Bharat Ratna Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi, observed as Lok Kalyan Divas, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma presented the Lok Sewa Award 2024 to 47 government employees and the Karma Shree Award to six teams of bureaucrats. The event took place at Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra in Guwahati.

Chief Minister Sarma led the state in paying rich tributes to Gopinath Bordoloi. He congratulated the awardees, stating, “Our public servants are taking forward the good governance initiatives of the government, driven by the philosophy and ideals of Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi.”

Sarma highlighted Gopinath Bordoloi’s role in the freedom struggle and his efforts in safeguarding Assam from the ‘Grouping’ plan. He also mentioned Bordoloi’s work in protecting the land rights of indigenous people and creating tribal belts and blocks, which laid the foundation for modern Assam.

The Chief Minister announced that the state government will observe Bordoloi’s death anniversary on August 5 as Lok Kalyan Divas and honor government servants with Karmashree and Lok Sewa Awards. He emphasized the importance of recognizing the efforts of government servants in bringing positive changes to the lives of the people.

Sarma also spoke about Mission Basundhara, aimed at resolving land-related issues in Assam. He noted that 30 percent of land problems have been resolved through Mission Basundhara 1.0 and 2.0, and the remaining issues will be addressed with Mission Basundhara 3.0.

Several officials were honored with the Karmashree Award for their contributions to various initiatives, including the inclusion of Charaideo Maidam in the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Samarth Admission Portal, the Jaldoot program under Jal Jeevan Mission, and the rehabilitation of Laika Forest Village.

The Chief Minister also mentioned efforts to improve the working conditions of government employees, including the Apon Ghar Scheme, Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar, and medical bill reimbursements. He announced that the Lok Kalyan Commission will start functioning on October 2.

Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass, Revenue Minister Jogen Mohan, Labour and Employment Minister Sanjoy Kishan, Power Minister Nandita Garlosa, Chief Secretary Dr. Ravi Kota, DGP G.P. Singh, and other dignitaries attended the event. Sarma also visited Nehru Park to pay homage to Gopinath Bordoloi and participated in an all-faith prayer meeting.
