Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma Expresses Concerns for Hindu Minorities in Bangladesh on Independence Day
Guwahati (Assam) [India] August 15: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma voiced his concerns about the safety of Hindu minorities in violence-hit Bangladesh. Speaking after hoisting the National Flag on India’s 78th Independence Day at Khanapara Veterinary College field in Guwahati, CM Sarma said, “While we are standing under the tricolour National flag and celebrating Independence Day, my thoughts are with the minority community people in Bangladesh.”
CM Sarma expressed his deep sympathy for the affected Hindu, Christian, Buddhist, and Jain communities in Bangladesh, stating, “I am deeply worried about their future.” He highlighted the historical context of the partition of Bharat and the plight of Hindus in Pakistan and Bangladesh.
He praised the Border Security Force (BSF) and Assam Police for their efforts in ensuring no unauthorized Bangladeshi nationals crossed the border into Assam and India. CM Sarma emphasized the importance of protecting the border as a “constitutional duty.”
He also requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take all possible diplomatic measures to protect the Hindu people in Bangladesh. Additionally, CM Sarma praised PM Modi’s Independence Day speech, which emphasized the goals of Viksit Bharat 2047 and reassured the nation about the future of Bharat.
